John’s love of music began in his mother’s womb! His mother worked for Columbia Records before John was born. Her job was to listen to the master tapes for imperfections before going to press, allowing her to hear some of the world’s most renowned talents before the records even hit the stores. Lucky for John, her passion for music was passed to him. Additionally, John’s uncles were music enthusiasts, amassing a record collection of hundreds, including rare 78s and EPs from the jazz and swing era that John now has as his own.

John Jacob (DJ Johnnie J) Has Been Deejaying for Thirty Years

John’s passion for music flourished in high school as he created a radio station and hosted two shows daily during his senior and junior years. He also hosted several fundraising 24-hour dance marathons during high school. When he graduated and attended college at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT, John created his radio show called “Reflections,” which examined how musical artists are influenced by those who came before them and those that they influenced. The show ran for two years and was live every Sunday night. After college, John’s corporate career with GE and IBM took off. Still, he always kept his finger on the pulse of music by hosting summer picnics, holiday parties, and the occasional wedding. John has amassed an incredible collection of music that includes 1,000 45s, 2,000 LP albums, and 4,000 CDs, all of which have been digitized.

During the '90s, John and his family lived in Atlanta, GA, just when country music took off with Garth, McGraw, Strait, Alan Jackson, Reba, Martina, et al. John and his son Mike saw over 100 concerts in 8 years in GA. John's baritone voice has been heard in commercials in CT, GA, NH, and VT. It is ideal for emceeing your wedding, corporate event, or private party!
